CF peeking over a wall.The Wupatki Indian Ruins Monument is located less than an hour outside of Flagstaff. It is quite large -- just driving the main loop road takes at least an hour -- and the ruins are spread in several sites throughout.
The visitor center, trails and signs are interesting, but the ruins are sublime. They stand tall and peaceful in the high desert air, a conduit to times long past. The people who lived there seem close, as if you might peek around a corner and see one. They step invisibly over the stones, and you hear the happy shouts of vanished children...
