[IDNO:244] RE: Refining our formal membership criteria

We both are on relatively same plan here.

I didnot mean it as criticism nor do I suggest any kind of detraction from
results. I am extremely happy with the results and the mode in which the
election were conducted given the tight timeframe (Congrats to those that
made it possible !). And I apologize for any impression I might have given
to the contrary.

Am trying to add to the election outline in Joop's e-mail, learning and
improving from our present election.

I continue to feel strongly that the statement (etc..) should be posted by
the candidate once he is seconded.

Reasons :-

1. Clean neat one stop shop. Look up the candidates, read on them and vote
and be done with it.

2. Going by experiences at other lists, we are very likely have more members
who passively watch the postings rather than actively, but neither the less
are interested in the outcome. Makes it easy for them to participate. (We
must have higher turnover and do all we can to increase the participation
!)

3. Even among those of us who actively participate in this list (me
included) - we might not be completely aware of candidates past stellar
track record in other groups or like. It will enable us make a more educated
judgement. (It would not be fair to assume equal historic understanding and
depth of all of us as we all might have become involved in IDNO at different
times and come from differing forums in past).

4. It will give candidate a fair oppertunity (and a forum) to present his
stand/past achievements.

5. In all it will keep the entry level low, options and choice high and our
whole process most democratic. And make sure that the content and focus our
own agenda stays current and just.

We can keep this step optional and encourage candidates to do so, rather
than as a rule. Any comments ?

Sri

Agreed. But these were special circumstances. We did what we had to do
under
a tight timeframe. And I don't think it should detract from the results.

Also, hopefully next time we will all know each other so that the posting of

statements/resumes should be more of a formality than an absolute necessity.
