Now that our charter is in place...and we are rolling towards elections and
maturing further...here are some(personal) ponderings on where to get
to..based on where we have come to so far...(its one long email sorry ! )

IDNO - Website - Evolution into a sort of 'co-op' portal for
Individual Domain Name Owners

With our Fundamental Action Center (what we have in place today) as the
central piece.

a. what we stand for - charter, members, their statements, archive.
b. historic information - the key players in internet world. what they are
upto and how it effects indiviudual domain name owners (intro on reason for
our existance to new comers).
c. For our existing members - (not active on discuss list)
i. Weekly report / status on happenings...whats being discussed on other
forums and lists (in b) and what and how we are responding - in terms easy
enough for a new comer to figure out things. (summary of postings on our and
other lists)
ii. summary of happening at meetings - the news, the impact, what to do
next..
d. Future happenings and events to look forward to, participate in
(meetings, etc).
e. subscription to list.
f. join request / forms.
g. voting booths.

(multi-lingual to the best extent possible)

(We should be able to provide a entry and lurking point to members with
different time contribution levels..
(a) those with quick 10 min browsers interested in finding the latest
situation and vote on issues and be done with it to
(b) more time contributing members like we have now..who take time to
actively participate on the list and on others lists/forums in interests of
our common objectives).

Surrounded by different help centers..

a. Domain name disputes help Center

Evolving on the help group we are trying to form..formalizing it and putting
it in place on website with..

i. Tips and clues on what to expect, how to respond when faced with
disputes, lawyer letters in face, etc...
ii.Details of/links to old cases and other resources to enable members make
educated decisions on - whether its worth fighting the case or not.
iii. List to get some consolence and other knowledge sharing between
members.
iv. Links to resources to get started...lawyers, etc.

b. Getting Website going Center (beginner to intermiedate domains hosted on
someother provider)

i. Tips and clues on what next to do after getting a domain name..
ii. Hosting at other places - ISP, etc...what to watch out for..common pit
falls..check list..
iii. List where people could share ideas and solutions and words or
caution...(summary of which is reflected in the Website for this center..)
iv. Links to resources to get started, get help, etc

c. Web Masters help Center (more serious websites - co located or own
machines).

i.Clues and tips on minimizing legal liability - using freedom server, etc.
ii. Privacy issues - do's and don't, etc
iii. Links to Linux Help sites.
iv. List to voice concerns and get help and support.
v. Links to other possible sites of interest.

d. Trademark Help Center

i. Tips and clues how to safeguard the domain name by trademarking/service
marking..
ii. What options are available..
iii. List to help interaction (among different countries, etc).
iv. Links to possible sites of interest and help.

e. Small Business Help Center

i. Links on how to incorporate etc...
ii. Get started of the ground.
iii. List to share success and failure stories..etc..
iv. Evolving tax issues in with internet that effect our members ..etc.

Each center to have its own mentors (seasoned volunteers)..focused on
nourishing and aiding the center and some focused to move the issues that
need to be moved to the fundamental action committee.

Other Issues :-

I. Funding :-

1. Paid support logos on our site - of corporations/trusts/endowments that
supports us financially.
2. Membership fees and donations.
3. Possible sales of recommended books from links from different centers
(after making it clear to members we benefit from it).

(All funding on strict lines of NPR - National Public Radio in US.) - No
advertisements - Put a logo of supporting company or photo of people
contributing, trust names etc in supporters page.

Can consider a clearly marked separate page for paid relevant advertisements
if need be. and a separate page for links that are not paid for but put in
interests of our members only.

(each adv. or support logo - can be voted out of our site by members if they
feel bad about it)

Most of us working in US, have company funds we can use to purchase books,
courses or pay for professional association memberships. If we can provide
some means our members can claim eligibility to contribute for the
association thru that sources - like allow purchase of books from say amazon
or other places (ellen roy's book directly ?) or printing our own
publications up for subscription (later day) ..it will be good.. in sense
member can support the association with no burden to themselves.

II. Membership Fee :-

Different slots of member fee
( free- basic membership;
$5-paid member;
$15- member / supporter
$30- Card carrying member).

Fees also to be annual or one time..(trying to accommodate as many third
world countries as possible on fee structure - for them paying in US dollars
is a big headache - in terms of currency conversion /purchasing power parity
and getting approval to pay in foreign currency)

III. Join Form / information gathering :-

Members to be encouraged to submit information on the following lines that
will help the cause, while joining...

a. income, educational, demographic information -

i.to persuade companies like Porsche/Volkeswagen etc that we represent a
tech savvy, high purchasing power, opinion influencing globally market
segment (not to be kicked around).
ii.to encourage companies /trusts to support our efforts with donations
(similar again to appeal NPR presents).
iii. convince media to cover and project our views and to sensibly use words
like cybersquattering,etc..instead of carelessly throwing it around at every
individual domain name owner (non corporate sponsers) who is not yet gone
completely online.

b. Nationality information.

i. to convince and if need be to write to politicians that we represent
significant section of voting or more important opinion influencing segment
of population.

c. Consent form (optional) to asserting the addition of their name defaultly
to petitions we might make at different forums - in case they do not have
time to vote.

IV. Paid Members and re-imbursement :-

We should have a few full time paid members like EPIC.org (how do they
operate / fund / any ideas ?) and must recompensate the expenses (besides
those voluntaryly foregone) selflessly incurred so far by our founding
members (Joop and others) so far.

In all a constituency and a forum of its own....a free democratic movement
on internet ! (much like the Linux movement) to freedom, sanity and
fairness for individual domain name owners and all on the internet - for now
and forever !!
