[IDNO-DISCUSS] We have never been the "IDNO Association"!

We have never, ever been the "IDNO Association",
as this ballot initiative implies. If we were,
then why was the option to keep the name not
on the ballot? Because we never have been
the "IDNO Association"

Furthermore, it is not an option on the
ballot to vote for being known as the
"IDNO Association" either.

When I joined IDNO (As I am very fond of
refering to us- as most of us are), We were,
and are still known as, "The Cyberspace
Association, the Constituenty of Individual
Domain Name Owners". And that is still what
we are still known as, although this election may
change that (Not neccessarily good or bad).

For the Cyberspace Association to be called,
"IDNO" is fine with me - it is easy, it is our SLD,
and Internet Steering committees are fond of
acronyms.

Let's get this straight though: Our name - as stated on
our website and on Joops signature line is thus:
"The Cyberspace Association, the Consituency of Individual Domain Name
Owners."

And we are located at www.idno.org

It makes perfect sense to me.

The second issue I am having problems with is
that there is no initiative to retain our name.
We are given the choice between either one of the
IDNO versions or merely "The Cyberspace Association".
Personally, I happen to really like, "The Cyberspace Association, the
Consituency of Individual Domain Name Owners."

The final thing wrong here, is exactly what
I sited in an earlier post last week.

We had an election, when did it close? did it close?

Cyberspace Association won in that election,
yet the post date for this election reflects that this
is the same ballot - IT IS NOT! The other ballot was different!!!

For this reason, I really urge that we call
for a few days of submittals for names and then
hold a REAL election that is set, and final. That is my proposal.

I find this kind of seat of the pants approach to what has been arranged
here
to be farscicle, preposterous, and quite reactionary. We can't just go
around changing ballots midstream.
We can't just throw away our existing name without having the choice to
keep it, and we can't just say that we're the
"IDNO Association", when we never have been, and what would you like to
be called instead?

These are not, and have never been, the sort of things that will lend
credence and legitimacy to
an organization or government that claims to be dmocratic, or a
epresentative democracy in nature. It don't fly because it ain't true
when that kind of thing happens.

So again, I call for us to completely scrap this initiative and start
over on it - IT'S HANDLING IS SERIOUSLY FLAWED. (albeit with the best
intentions I am sure).

In fact, the hubub about this name thing was merely out there
mulling around until I posted regarding it last week.

We didn't even have a comment period. This is rash and shameful!

A Name is everything one is identified with and we should take some time

to hold another election and do this right -
Get it syntactically correct if you will.
