I just received the following from Tom Martin, president of the Grand
Canyon Private Boaters Association:

**************

In a letter to the Grand Canyon Private Boaters Association dated May 9,
1997, the Grand Canyon National Park has made the following changes to the
1997 fee schedule:

* "We have agreed to reinstate the one year grace period. After missing one
Continuing Interest payment, waiting list participants will be required to
remit the full amount of $50, to renew their position."

* "We have also agreed to modify the Permit Fee Schedule to reduce the
financial impact to solo boaters and small groups. We will reduce the
Permit Fee for solo boaters to $50 (a $150 reduction) and the Permit Fee
for parties of 2-5 to $100 (a $100 reduction). We are also considering a
discount to reduce the financial impact to families traveling together. "

There is now a link to the new GCPBA page on the listserver --
