Hi GC Boaters,
Let me introduce myself too. I'm 48 years old, from Virginia, and work at
USGS in Reston, Va, writing software. I've been paddling a canoe for about
twenty years, doing serious whitewater (class 4-5) for about 7 or so. Most
of my boating experience is in from around here (WV, VA, GA, TN, NC), but
out west I've run the Arkansas (Brown's Canyon, Numbers, Royal Gorge) and a
bunch of rivers in MT and WY. I canoed the GC in Sept/Oct of '95 on a 21
day private trip and loved it. I got on the list January '96 (# 6k+), and
managed to get invited on another private trip this year, 8/3 to 8/20. I've
got a problem though, and wonder if anyone on this list can help. I had
planned to fly my canoe out there via United Airlines, but they changed the
type of plane from a 757, which would be able to carry the boat, to an
AirBus, which won't. We haven't been able to find someone to drive out with
boats, so I've been looking in Phoenix and Flagstaff for a canoe to
rent/borrow/steal, with little luck so far. I'd love to find a Dagger
Caption (the boat that I used before), but I'd consider most anything, as
long as I can roll it. If anyone can help, or has any suggestions, please
email me. Thanks in advance.
