I doubt it, but, in my book, if you're curious about "it" you
deserve one.

The interesting discussion about the evidence of lakes points
to an area where I suspect interested amateurs could
contribute to our understanding of the canyon. How thoroughly
have the side canyons been surveyed for evidence of deltas?

Because we are so much more numerous, there may be a lot more
information locked away in the brains of observant river runners
than in living scientists. I know that river runners understood
that beach destruction was facilitated by dewatering and
slumping years before it became a formal concept.

What we lack is rigor and ways in which to informally organize
our efforts, collaborate and exchange ideas and information.
How many out there would enjoy a focused scientific
investigation as part of a trip? Say, survey one side canyon,
measure one travertine deposit, survey one beach, etc.

Of course, first we need to get into the canyon.

Ben
