slices of the pie

the last few days discussions of how to slice the pie (or make it
bigger) have offered as many creative ways of serving up days as there
are boaters. Unfortunatly, some seem to me almost as complicated as how
the goverment runs the park and the IRS ignores common sense.

Common sense tells me to leave the commercial community alone, not
because I love the guys, but they've just recovered from their own
"review" and will solve thier own problems given the already generous
(but at least defined) piece of pie. I suspect they'll eventually get
squezzed from the park service and other entities on the motor,
transfer, and trip lenght issues somewhere down the road. They have
enough problems!

Common sense indicates that the private piece-that precious little slice
served to those who wait and are ready is too small, and the trip
leader wait too long (with exception of a serendipitous cancellation).

Allocation to small: make it bigger Overall use is less in shoulder and
winter seasonwith little, if any, commercial use, I'm sure use can be
increased here, and still give the time for the canyon to "recover."

LIST TO LONG: make it shorter. It is unrealistic to expect that use of
the shoulder season would solve this so.....
