I manage a web hosting service which currently has nearly 300 clients.
I've told my web clients about the global TLDs and where to go to reserve
their new domain names.
However, we have found some registrars who are abusing this power. Some
are charging non-refundable fees for preferential placement (for instance,
http://www.globaldomains.com/gtld_intro.html).
Even if this fee were refundable upon successful placement, it would be
questionable. To do it when there's no guarantee of successful placement
is piracy and extortion and should not be permitted.
Thanks for your consideration of this matter.
