Why Songbird Doesn't Support Microsoft FrontPage

We are sometimes asked why Songbird does not support Microsoft's FrontPage® product line. There are several interrelated reasons.

1. As a matter of philosophical preference, Songbird strongly supports OpenSource software.
2. FP has been plagued by a number of significant security problems over the years. See for example the Wired article (*) on the most recent problem. This is not an isolated incident -- there has been a consistent history of such problems, and furthermore, in the opinion of many security experts, the FP model is intrinsically hard to secure. 3. As with many Microsoft products, to get full use of FP you are almost required to use a full Microsoft infrastructure to support it. A small company like Songbird does not have the resources to support a wide variety of platforms, and consequently must specialize.
