Help Using Majordomo Mailing Lists

The gcboaters mailing list uses the "Majordomo" mailing list software, running on the machine "songbird.com". Majordomo accepts several commands, and, of course, since it manages mailing lists, those commands are usually sent via email. Please note the distinction between sending commands to Majordomo and sending messages to the gcboaters list: commands are mailed to "majordomo@songbird.com"; messages are sent to "gcboaters@songbird.com" (from which they will be distributed to all members of the mailing list).

What follows is a reference for the majordomo email commands:

These commands are put each on a single line in the body of an email message sent to "majordom@songbird.com" ("majordomo@scriptdoctor.com" will also work). Our web form supplies a straightforward web interface to the commands, as well.

In the description below items contained in []'s are optional. When providing the item, do not include the []'s around it. Items in angle brackets, such as <address>, are meta-symbols that should be replaced by appropriate text without the angle brackets.

Majordomo understands the following commands:

    subscribe gcboaters [<address>]
Subscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) to gcboaters.
You will receive a message asking if you are sure you want
to subscribe, with further instructions. Reply as per those
        instructions.

    unsubscribe gcboaters [<address>]
Unsubscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) from gcboaters.
You will receive a message asking if you are sure you want
to unsubscribe, with further instructions. Reply as per those
        instructions.

    info gcboaters
Retrieve general introductory information for gcboaters.

    intro gcboaters
Retrieve the introductory message sent to new users.

    help
Retrieve the general majordomo help file.

    end
Stop processing commands (useful if your mailer adds a signature).

Commands should be sent in the body of an email message to "Majordomo@bywater.songbird.com". Multiple commands can be processed provided each occurs on a separate line. However many commands you send, they must each be on one line.

Commands in the "Subject:" line are NOT processed.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact webmaster@songbird.com.
