Hi all,

There have been many questions floating around on the Washington 22 meeting on
the DNSO, and also reagridng its relationship with our process. I will try to
answer most of them to the best of my knowledge in the following, completely
unoffical, FAQ.

Best regards,

WASH DC-DNSO MEETING UNOFFIICAL FAQ

* IS THE MEETING TAKING PLACE?

Yes, this is now sure: On January 22

* DATE, TIME AND PLACE?

This is not yet absolutely official, but the most likely is the following:

9:00am-5:30pm
George Washington University
Washington DC

* IS THIS MEETING OPEN?

Yes. There will be an inscription fee of about USD50.

Please see instruction in the invitation letter for registration details

(it was sent to this list, and it is now posted at http://ww.dnso.org, under
"What's New")

* WILL THE MEETING BE WEBCASTED?

Most probably not, but it will be taped, and the audio file will be indeed
available on the Net.

* WHO ORGANISES THE MEETING?

It's ben organised by a group of entities (mostly international assocaitons),
called the "sponsoring organisations"

Jon Englund (ITAA) and Joe Alhadeff (USCIB/ICC) have played a central role in
organising this effort, with the help of Chritiaan van der Walk, Walter van
der Weiden adn Daphne de Yongd'herve from the ICC staff.

* WHO ARE THE "SPONSORING ORGANISATIONS"?

In aplphabetical order:

Commercial Internet Exchange (CIX)
Council of European National Top level domain Registries (CENTR)
European ISP Association (EUROISPA)
International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)
International Trademark Association (INTA)
Internet Council of Registrars (CORE)
Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI)
Policy Oversight Committee (POC)
World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA)

* ARE SOME OF THE ABOVE SPONSORS CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH OUR DNSO (BCN/MTY)?

Yes. CENTR, CORE, EuroISPA and POC have attended both the BCN and the MTY
meetings, and INTA the MTY one.

Some of their representatives have also served or still serve in the various
organising, drafting or transition teams, but they are co-organising the
January 22 meeting in their own name and behalf.

* IS THIS MEETING A DNSO-PROCESS (BCN/MTY) MEETING?

No, it is not our third meeting.

In fact it is what we could term as part of our "outreach program": a meeting
where we all will have the chance to discuss DNSO-related issues (most
notably: the application form) with what we could consider the most
representative organisations of the commercial and trademark-related
community.

This means exactly one of the consituencies (as we have agreed to call them)
that have been undersrepresented so far in our process. This is why the
meeting is so relevant.

* WILL OUR WORK BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT?

Yes indeed. We will present our drafts (the post-MTY and the one trying to
incorporate ulterior comments) and will explain our process, choices, open
issues and timetable.

[Even if there are no "official" DNSO (BCN/MTY process reps, it is clear that
all of us who will attend on behalf of our organsiations and who are involved
in this process are strongly committed to it]

* SHOULD I ATTEND SUCH MEETING?

The so-called Transition Team encourages all of you who can attend to do so.

* WHAT IF I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND?

As said before, the meeting will be recorded, and the audio file available
though the Net.

The Transition Team will futhermore organize a teleconf on Saturday morning
(EST) so all DNSO process particpants who want will get an immediate update on
the previous days discussions.

* WHAT'S THAT RUMOUR ABOUT A CLOSED MEETING?

As said above, the meeting will be open (and taped).

Nevertheless, many of the organisers of such meeting (the sponsoring
organisations) felt that it would also be important to meet among thenselves
to both better prepare the following day's meeting and to check the relative
agreement and discrepacies in relation with the DNSO formation process. Somo
of the spnsors might invite other organisations.

Neithjer the agenda or the list of invitees is still available. What is has
already been decided is that an extensive summary of its disucssion and
conclusions (if any) will be both posted on the Net and presented before the
open meetng being held the day after.

Indeed, anyone is free to meet with whomever wants, and it is clear that such
meeting will not predertmine the output of the open meeting, or of any
process. At best, it will build some consensus among some parties than will
need to "sell" their views to the rest of the community (explain; discuss;
convince). At worst, it could turn into a nice social event, with lots of
maillist flaming around ;-))

* DO YOU HAVE ANY LIST OF RECCOMENDED HOTELS?

No, I don't. Hope to circulate a list of nearby hotels as soon as one of the
"local" co-organisers provide it ;-)
