I'm very honored by the nomination ... and gladly accept.
A little personal background: I'm in the marketing department of the directory/ecommerce subsidiary of Bell Atlantic (a US telco) where I endlessly build databases and analyze customer transaction data. I do not represent my company, and do not foresee any conflict of interest.
A memorable childhood experience was being on the Selma-Montgomery march with Martin Luther King. That may explain why I filled up on lawschool courses (especially Con Law and International Law) when I was an undergrad at GWU in DC, and why I worked in a variety of public interest organizations before 'settling down.'
These two interests merge in my job in that I have at various times had the responsibility of ensuring adequate privacy protection policies. I am something of a privacy fundamentalist, and feel that privacy protection for the Net is the sine qua non of all the gilded promises of the Internet (in which I continue to believe). I have participated in the Berkman Center's cybercourses on privacy, and actively monitor the progress of US and international legislation and case law. An at least once a year I revisit the question of whether I should go to law school -- usually at the insistance of my wife, who just finished her third year.
We live in Marblehead MA, a coastal town about 15 miles northeast of Boston -- which I'm sure everyone knows is celebrating its 350th anniversary this week, with great fanfare.
