I doubt that the man has ever written more than 20,000 lines of code in
his entire carrer.

For those who don't know about programming, that number may sound fairly
high. However, the average code count, for a small project, is over
10,000 lines of code (LOC) and takes over 6 months (fully tested). Most
commercial projects involve over 500,000 LOC. The average programmer is
good for about 20-40 thousand tested LOC per year. The good ones hit the
high-side. Over a 20-year carreer, that's close to half a million lines
of code.
