songbird live view

History of the past few hours

This is the view of the southern sky out songbird's office window. Locally, the picture changes every few minutes.

Notes:

  1. The camera is physically flawed -- there are diagonal streaks that are a permanent part of every picture, and it consistently underexposes.
  2. The camera runs automatically, and tries to compensate for brightness differences. But the compensation is not perfect, and sometimes pictures wash out.
  3. The scene is intrinsically very high contrast, beyond the capacity of the camera to record.
Given all these flaws, why take these pictures? First, they are an amusing source of pure random numbers, and second, even with all the flaws, they give a quite good idea what the weather is at any moment.
