RE>GC fishing ? 1/23/57

Tim,
Grand Canyon fishing can be OK in late July but it is limited. The best
fishing is in winter and spring when there is less chance of flash floods
clouding up the water. If you hit the Canyon on a lucky stretch with no
storms then fish on. Trout seem to like to feed on the edges of eddies below
rapids but can be caught any where the water is clear. There is a lure you can
buy at Marble Canyon called the Z-RAY. The large or small bright orange/ pink
ones bring them in every time. If you have cloudy water you can still do OK at
stream mouths like Nankoweep, Bright Angel and Tapetes. Vasesys is always good
too. In Late July you will find a small green grasshopper in the willows
around Tapetes Creek. Put that little guy on a small hook and drop him in any
of the pools on the creek. You will catch nice pan sized trout. Out in the
river at Tapetes try dropping a big woolly worm behind the rocks out in the
river just down stream of the creek. Big carnivores like to lurk there. Also a
spinner or spoon with any kind of red color works well right in the mouth of
the creek at high water. Good luck this is what has worked for me in the past.
