You need a river permit from the GCNP and you need to pay a put-in fee to
the Hualapai and need permission from them to travel across their lands,
but there is no permit to float from them. The GCNP river permit is free
(at least they were this Feb); Hualapai fees are probably high (3 yrs ago
we had to take out at Diamond rather than continue to Pearce as planned
because of an injury, and the ranger there charged $80 to take out-payable
on the spot, injury or no; and he drove away when we asked for help with
our injury victim - we had no car at Diamond since we hadn't meant to take
out there and it was Dec 28 so there was very little traffic -- I have no
great fondness for or trust of the Hualapai powers-that-be on the river
there).

Re the reservoir - You can just float it out all night and you end up with
only a mile or two of rowing if you are patient and the res is not too
high. There is current; it's just slow.
