Some day, inevitably, there will be a big one, that makes a
rapid hard enough that mortals will want to portage. In the
old days, the river would have washed it down to just normal
Grand Canyon scale in a few years, but with the dam, this time
it'll stick.

This will raise some interesting management issues.
