Someone might want to suggest to CORE (and NSI) that CORE take over the stewardship of .NET (or .ORG). That could be the TLD they suggest when applying for one of the 5 openings the U.S. Government is creating.
This would solve several problems.
1. NSI would have one less cash cow which seems to be a major concern of CORE advocates.
2. The novice CORE registry and registrars would have a working TLD to inherit.
3. If they took .ORG, then CORE could become an advocacy group for non-profits and such. That seems to be the basis of much of their support, so why not have them serve their constituency ?
4. This would free up the CORE selected TLDs and avoid the collisions that they seemed to want to encourage as test cases for their authority which they clearly do not have.
Please pass this on to anyone in CORE that might be interested.
