Practical info - Washington meeting

Hi.

I've found via Yahoo some info on GWU. Here's the map that shows the
building where the meeting is: http://www.gwu.edu/misc/Map/H22.html.
The general map of the campus is at: http://www.gwu.edu/misc/Map/.

I have heard of some people that had difficulties with the hotels in
Washington.

May I suggest to check out one of the many lists of hotels in Washington
available on the Web, which is
http://jgl.cplaza.ne.jp/north/usa/washi_dc/info.htm. Maybe Mikki or other
Washingtonians can provide further suggestion.

For deciding the hotel, keep in mind that the meeting is at the George
Washington University (not to be mistaken with the Georgetown University),
at 800, 21st St. NW. I understand that this is at H & 21st NW.

Knowing that street follow a reasonable pattern (21st is between 20 and 22,
and H is between J and K ;>)), it should be a straightforward exercise to
find out the number of blocks each hotel on the list is away from the
University (unless you're on avenues that have names of US States, in which
case it's a little more complicated).
Be aware that 800-899 is btw H and I, 900-999 btw I and J, and so on.
For across, it's even easier: 800-899 is btw 8th and 9th, and so on.

Note that, if you want to be close to GWU, you want to stay in the NW
quarter anyhow.

Another alternative, suggested to me in a private message, is to stay in the
grater Washington area, but close to the subway. The examples I've been
given are Rockville or Silver Spring, MD.
If I remember correctly, the subway stop suitable for GWU is Foggy Bottom
(Orange line). For a map of the Subway, see:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/longterm/metro/front.htm.

I am staying at the Georgetown Dutch Inn, 1075 Th. Jefferson St. NW (in
Georgetown, at M & 30), phone # +1 202 337 0900. Jazz musicians and jazz
lovers, that I found out to my surprise to be many in the Internet
Community, may bet that we can organize an evening at the Blues Alley or the
One Step Down (if the rumor of its closure is proven to be a mistake).

Regards
Roberto
