To all who wanted EPIRB info:
Hi all! The EPIRB we carry is the ACR mini B2, class B EPIRB. It is a
pocket sized manually activated beacon. Measures 6" x 2.5" x 1.6" and
weighes 9.9 ozs. It floats and has a special double-wound antenna which
resists damage while stored, the bright orange case has a special knurled
surfaace for a secure grip. List price is $399.00 from West Marine, but I
can get them a little cheaper, and sometimes they have these things on sale.
The company carries 3 bigger and more expensive models. The Magnum B, Class
B is the same price but bigger: 9" x 4.8" x 3.5".
The 406Mhz models are MUCH pricier $1479.00 and $1795.00. I don't think
the higher priced ones are necessary on the Grand, unless you have way too
much money to care about the expense.
The mini B frequency precision is 50ppm, power ouotput is 75 mW, and the
transmit frequency is 121.5 Mhz and 243.0 Mhz . Power is a lithium battery
that has a 6 year replacement, 12 year useful life and can be replaced at any
ACR service station. I am copying this info out of my catalogue, and have
little idea about what all this stuff means, but like I said before, it
WORKS. West Marine is a mail order catalogue for boaters and has stores
around the country. Their # is 1-800-538-0775. I'm sure other catalogues
sell these Epirbs too. If you want to order it thru me, thats ok too.
I would be happy to fax anyone pages out of the catalogue that have EPIRB
info on
them, if this is not enough info.
Hope all this helps, we all gotta stick together to make river running as
safe and fun as posssible. By the way, I think that ours was the first use
of an EBIRB on the Grand, as they couldn't figure out where or what the
signal was coming from.

Chris
