Friends

Given Judy and Ben's comments, perhaps this would be a good time to
bring this up.:-)

Len mentioned a week or so ago that he had thought about changing the
charter of the list a bit, to relax it. I was entranced by the
hydrology discussion, and thought "Yeah!", so a draft of a new
charter was produced.

It's germane to this discussion, because one of the things I really
value in this list is the variety of viewpoints, and in particular, I
value the dialogue between commercial and private interests. So the
new charter has language to express that perspective:

"The Grand Canyon Boaters' List has several purposes:

- To provide a place where worldwide friends of the Canyon can
meet;

- To help persons with non-commercial river trip permits find
other qualified private boaters to assist in putting together
their Canyon trips;

- To provide an information resource for people interested in
river trips in the Grand Canyon;

- To provide a forum for discussion of issues concerning the
Canyon, the River, and the Park;

- To further goodwill among all types of river runners, and
friends of the Canyon;

- And finally, it's here for fun.

This list is open to all interested parties -- private boaters,
commercial guides and outfitters, National Park Service personnel,
and people who love the Canyon."

The most important change is the opening to a wider group than the
private boating community, particularly commercial guides.

The full charter is at http://songbird.com/gcboaters/new.html. If
you are so inclined, please read it, and send any comments to Len, ,
the list, or me.

Thanks

Kent
