Background:
I am the president and owner of Dana Point Communication Systems.
DPC was formed in 1991 as a software development house specializing
in networked applications. In April of 1994 we added ISP services
by starting Beach.Net.
My first Internet connection was a UUCP dialup to UUNet established
in 1989. This was followed by a dedicated analog line in 91, a
56K connection in 92 and a T1 in 94. So the 'Net is, and has been
for some time, an integral part of both sides of our business.
I have been following the "DNS wars" for close to 3 years now.
I was one of the early proponents of a shared registry system
and remain so today (obviously :)
Goals:
I see the position of Deputy Chair of PAB as more than simply a
stand in in case the Chair is un-available. While the Chair is
the "front" man, talking to the public etc.., the Deputy works
behind the scenes, facilitating whatever it is that needs to be
done at the moment. In my professional life I have a reputation
for getting things done and I welcome the chance to do so with
PAB. I think that I'd make a good silent partner for either
of the candidates for Chair.
Some immediate projects are obvious,
Complete the charter
Move the PAB mailing list(s) to a site under PAB control
Maintain a membership list independent of the ITU list
(I mean no offence to ITU or IMC here, but PAB needs more control
of these vital resources)
Respond formally to the POC proposal for increasing POC membership
I expect that the membership/composition issue will be a focus
of PAB activities for some time.
Disclaimers:
I am a member of ISOC (and Usenix, IEEE and ACM)
I am *not* a member of CORE or affiliated with any CORE members.
I am running the voting process for CORE, gratis, as a community service.
Bob Connelly did buy me dinner once :)
